Agressive Brain Lesion in a 4-Year-Old FS Mixed Breed Canine: Our Case Of the Month March 2018

The patient was presented for trouble seeing and staring into space. She appeared to respond well to steroids. Recent blood work was essentially normal.

CT – Atlanto-axial subluxation with secondary compressive myelopathy, congenital, in a 7 month old F Yorkshire terrier

This 7 month old F Yorkshire Terrier presented with neurological signs. Rads show focal scoliosis at approximate level of T5. Hyper-reflexia pelvic limbs, 2-3+ in thoracic limbs. Uable to stand normally; when recumbent, voluntary movement all 4 limbs. Pain present. WBC 20,800, increased platelets, Total protein 7.8

CT – Periodontal disease and oronasal fistula with periodontitis in a 10 year old MN Chihuahua

This 10 year old MN Chihuahua presented with dropped lower left jaw, anisocoria, CP deficit left hind, limited cervical motion, intermittent paraparesis.

CT – Metastatic lung disease noted in a 17 year old FS West Highland Terrier presented with neurological signs

This 17 year old FS West Highland Terrier has a history of CRF (iris stage 4). Presented two weeks ago with rear limb ataxia; focal seizures began two days ago and presented to the hospital non- responsive. PE: dull, minimally responsive, sever neck pain on lateral and vertical movement. CBC/Chem: Crea 6.5, BUN elevated

CT – T12/13 disc extrusion with severe compressive meylopathy and foraminal stenosis in a 7 year old MN Dachshund

This 7 year old MN Dachshund initially presented with slight ataxia hind limbs, progressing to paraplegia over the following 2 days. CP absent, withdrawal with deep pain.

CT – Negative for portosystemic shunt in a 4 month old MN Chihuahua with neurological signs

This 4 month old MN Chihuahua presented with impaired balance, abnormal gait, falling to the side Physical exam: circling to the left, ataxia, hypermetria of pelvic limbs CBC/Chem: lymphocytes incr, neutrophils decr, TP 5.1, glucose 127, Phos 7.4   R/O liver shunt

CT – Disc extrusion and severe compressive myelopathy T12-13 in a 4 year old MN Lhasa Apso

This 4 year old MN Lhasa Apso presented for pelvic limb ataxia progressing to paresis. CP absent, reflexes +3, panniculus present until T-L junction. Suspect IVDD

CT – normal brain morphology in a 7 year old MN Maltese wth neurological signs

This 7 year old MN Maltese presented with neurological signs. Slight decrease in right hind postural response. R/O encephalitis/brain tumor

CT – Severe disc extrusion with moderate compressive myelopathy in a 5 year old MN Boxer

This 5 year old MN Boxer presented with severe cervical pain, paresis of right front, ataxia all 4 limbs, low head carriage.

CT – Craniocervical subluxation and stenosis due to a congenital malformation in a 4 month old MN ferret

This 17 week old MN ferret presented for ataxia and paresis of the hind limbs and to a lesser extent the front limbs. Apparently has had some ambulation deficits since at least 6 weeks of age Pgysical exam: extreme pain on palpation of neck and skull
