CT – T12/13 disc extrusion with severe compressive meylopathy and foraminal stenosis in a 7 year old MN Dachshund

Case Study

CT – T12/13 disc extrusion with severe compressive meylopathy and foraminal stenosis in a 7 year old MN Dachshund

This 7 year old MN Dachshund initially presented with slight ataxia hind limbs, progressing to paraplegia over the following 2 days. CP absent, withdrawal with deep pain.

Image Interpretation

CT of the spine – A large amount of non-uniformaly hyperattenuating material is seen within the left epidural compartment of the vertebral canal level with the intervertebral disc space T12/13. The left neuroforamen is completely obliterated by hyperattenuating disc material. The dural tube is displaced to the right and markedly compressed.

DX

• Intervertebral disc extrusion at T12/13 with severe compressive myelopathy and severe leftsided foraminal stenosis • Disseminated chondroid disc degeneration

Outcome

Surgical decompression is recommended – if not already performed.
