Dilated pancreatic duct in a 17 year old cat

Hello

We have Smokey a 17 year old MN DSH that has a long history of IBD. Treated with initially with budenoside and vit B12 but eventually needed prednisone.

As of late his appetite has decreased as has his BCS.

Blood performed 6 months ago showed no evidence of pancreatitis or liver changes.

We ultrasounded him today and found what I believe to be a dilated pancreatic duct. It measures 0.4cm and has no doppler tracings.

We ultrasounded him today and found what I believe to be a dilated pancreatic duct. It measures 0.4cm and has no doppler tracings.

Some images show a dilated bile duct and I believe I can see the branches that also measure 0.4cm. The GB appears moderately large but no obvous sludge.

The dilated “Pancreatic duct” seems to be present in the Rt limb and left limb of the pancreas.

I struggled with choosing the best images and keeping them in a small number. I am hoping that it can be confirmed that the pancreatic duct is enlarged and strengthen my anatomy. The major pancreatic duct secretes into the duodenum at the major duodenal papilla. Therefore if this truly is duct enlargement, will that cause a possible bile obstruction if there is inflammation at the papilla?

The first image should be from the left side with the stomach on the Rt side of the screen. The other images are from the Rt side.

Thanks. Brent

Yep left limb dilated panc

Yep left limb dilated panc duct… 17 year odl cat can do what he wants wiht his panc duct lol… Its still curvilinear and mildly tortuous but cats dilate their ducts as they get older and when you hit 17 as a cat this can be whats left… maybe had some panc on the way. Occasionally you can see echogenic material ina dilated duct like this and draw pus out of it wiht a 25g needle or a panc duct stone or both.

Follow the panc duct cranially to the CBD and ensure there is not an obstruction at the union prior to the d-pap. A nile plug or bile duct carcinoma can cause those clinical signs of ADR and not spike bili til later.

I searched the forum prior to posting but I was unable to find a similar post.

I am new to the forum. I appreciate the case-studies. They’re great.

I however can’t figure out how to get to /members/case-studies. Something I’m overlooking.

Thanks again. Brent.

Sure Brent just go to

Sure Brent just go to clinical search and basic search and type in a keyword… we have most abbreviations in there but when in doubt spell out the word.

On most pathologies we should have > 5-10 cases and common pathologies we may have >50 or more.

So you can search the forum posts but they pale in comparison to our searchable archive that has > 1500 cases live.

I screen shot the tab:
