Heartworm?

Sonopath Forum

– 2 year old MN rescuesd potcake from Bahamas

– heartworm positive with an intermittent cough but otherwise clinically well

– chest rads normal; echo normal with no evidence of right heart enlargement or LAE

– treatment for heartworm disease is planned

I am wondering if I am seeing an adult heartworm in the right main pulmonary artery? The resolution is not the greatest in this clip, but there looks like a linear hyperechoic object present. What do you think?

Hi!

I’m not totally sure but I would rather consider this an artifact. The MPA is not enlarged and if this was an adult worm here I would expect the MPA to be enlarged. Do you have any left sided view of the PA (do you see it there as well?)

Best regards!

Peter

i think its artifact as well as HW are curvilinear and this echogenic structure is irregular. See the attached same image same view with + hw sent to me from mandi klemen – cardio.

Thanks Peter and EL. I only saw this in the right sided views of the PA, and not the left.
