Presenting Clinical Signs: Owner states pet is very lethargic, not eating or drinking for “a few days”. Also c/o fleas. Pet had topical OTC flea med Thursday morning. No other meds.  Physical Exam: Lethargy, lateral with 10% dehydration and very thin body condition. Pale mm, Poor body condition

A 6-year-old SF Cockerlier was presented for evaluation of acute vomiting and sparse haircoat. On physical examination icterus, dental disease, and tacky mucus membranes were present. Abnormalities on CBC and serum biochemistry were mild anemia, leukocytosis, lymphopenia, elevated globulins, bilirubin, and liver enzyme activity (AST 382, ALT 1546, SAP 3135).

Restrictive cardiomyopathy, left sided congestive heart failure, pleural effusion and pericardial effusion in a 18 year old MN DSH cat

An 18½-year-old MN DSH cat was presented for evaluation of dyspnea. Physical exam:  weight loss, poor skin turgor, dyspnea, muffled heart sounds, and decreased lung sounds. On survey thoracic radiographs, pleural effusion was present. 

The Value of a Negative Sonogram

The patient was presented due to persistent vomiting for 3 weeks. Physical examination found the patient 5% dehydrtated. Blood chemistry found a high BUN of 94 and high creatinine of 3.2. USG was 1.032 (in the face of 5% dehydration).

Splenic mass in a 12 year old FS Sheltie dog

A 12-year-old spayed female Sheltie dog with a history of poor appetite over a few weeks was presented for evaluation of anorexia, lethargy, and diarrhea. Abnormalities on physical examination included dehydration, slight polypnea, and possible ascites with a non-tender abdomen. Abnormalities on CBC and serum biochemistry included leukocytosis, azotemia, and hyperkalemia.
