– 6 yr old MN Standard Poodle prsented for a mass/swelling on the right side of his neck just under the jawline
– it is non-painful, he is clinically well and blood work wnl
– ultrasound of the neck showed normal thyroid glands
– the mass on the neck is heterogenous with good blood flow – central blood vessels feedign out to the periphery
– FNA’s were performed and submitted (pending) They were bloody and stringy like saliva (so assuming salva gland)

Admittedly, I find this region confusing from an antomy standpoint. I found a structure on the other side in the same location but it looks more like a lymph node. I guess the FNA will help identify what this is but any thoughts on the pathological process?

Cytology: saliva and mild mixed inflammation compatible with a salivary mucoele
My past experience with salivary mucoceles is that they are soft swellings full of fluid that often go dependent under the chin. This is a firm, flat swelling an the side of the neck/under the mandible and there are no large cavities full of fluid on ultrasound. So, could this still be a salivary mucocele (early) or somthing else?
Excision has been recommended.
