03-00393 Zeus R Carcinomatosis—NEED SDX—-
A 7-year-old male Pit bull terrier was presented for evaluation of anorexia and weight loss. The only abnormality on physical examination was ascites. CBC and serum biochemistry were within reference range.
Right adrenal mass (pheochromocytoma) in a 6 year old MN Dachshund
The patient is a 6 year old neutered male Dachshund dog. Clinical findings include abdominal distension. (A sample of ascites was sent out for cytology and revealed serosanguinous modified transudate). Physical examination also revealed a grade 3/6 heart murmur. Medications included furosemide and enalapril. Blood work showed albumin was low at 2.3.
Liver masses in a 29 year old Cockatoo
The patient is a 29 year old Cockatoo (avian). The parrot was presented due to being not-quite-right and sleeping a lot. Ascites was noted in the abdomen on radiographs.
Liver nodules and cardiac tamponade in a 3 year old MI hamster
The patient is a 3 year old male hamster. Fluid in abdominal & thoracic cavities. Placed on Lasix 4mg/kg PO BID 4 days ago. Decreased protein. Radiographs revealed abdominal swelling.

An 11-year old SF Golden retriever was presented for evaluation of a modified transudate ascites.
Mitral and tricuspid insufiicency stage C1 valvular disease, shortened IVRT, and left sided heart failure with pulmonary hypertension in an 8 year old female Maltese dog
An 8-year-old F Maltese was presented for examination. A grade 5/6 systolic heart murmur was noted. Radiographs revealed severe generalized cardiomegaly and an unremarkable pulmonary parenchyma. Moderate hepatomegaly and ascites was additionally noted.
Protein Losing Enteropathy in an 8 Year Old FS Yorkshire Terrier dog
An 8 year old FS Yorkshire Terrier dog with a history of protein losing enteropathy (PLE) was presented for ascites, which was confirmed on physical examination. The dog has been treated with Atopica. Abdominocentesis yielded 265 mls of fluid. CBC and blood work showed leukocytosis, lymphopenia, neutrophilia, thrombocytosis, hypoproteinemia, hypoalbuminemia, and hypocalcemia.

A 12-year-old SF Labrador retriever cross was presented with a history of decreased appetite, distended abdomen and occasional vomiting. The only significant abnormality on physical examination was ascites. Moderately elevated liver enzyme activity was present on laboratory testing. Approximately 2 liters of fluid were drained from the abdomen, which was quantified as a transudate.
