A 12 year old FS Labrador Retriever dog was presented with a history of mildly elevated liver enzymes and weight loss. The clinical exam was unremarkable other than sub normal body weight.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Chronic hepatitis, fibrosis and potential for emerging cirrhosis. Minor potential for neoplasia.

Image Interpretation

The hepatic parenchyma is significantly coarse with thickened echogenic portal markings and micronodular parenchyma remodeling.

DX

Chronic portal hepatitis with moderate bridging portal fibrosis.

Outcome

The patient was treated with Denamarin and ursodiol and was lost to follow-up.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Liver pathology: Inflammatory hepatopathy, emerging liver failure, hepatic or other neoplasia, antigen surveillance/reactive hepatopathy.

Sampling

US-guided core liver biopsy: Portal hepatitis and fibrosis.
