A 9-year-old MN Jack Russell Terrier dog was presented for a history of mild weight loss, and aggression. No abnormalities were noted on the CBC. Blood chemistry profile revealed mildly elevated total protein, SAP, and ALT enzymes activities. Urinalysis and serum bile acids were not performed.

Cholangiohepatitis with portal fibrosis in a 9 year old MN Jack Russell Terrier dog
Sonographic Differential Diagnosis
Chronic inflammatory hepatopathy with fibrosis potentially hypomotile gall bladder.
Image Interpretation
The liver parenchyma was coarse with increased portal markings. The gall bladder presented minor excessive debris with echogenic wall.
DX
Chronic suppurative cholangiohepatitis with portal fibrosis and parenchymal collapse.
Outcome
Patient was lost to follow-up.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis
Cholangitis /cholangiohepatitis with a possible mucocoele. Hepatitis – acute suppurative, infectious (leptospirosis, toxoplasmosis), immune-mediated. Pancreatitis with secondary cholestasis and/or hepatitis. Neoplasia (primary vs. metastatic; hepatocellular adenoma, lymphoma, carcinoma, leiomyoma, leiomyosarcoma, mast cell tumor, histiocytic sarcoma, etc.) Change in behavior possibly secondary to abdominal discomfort associated with any of the above disease conditions.
Sampling
Ultrasound guided biopsy of the liver revealed a chronic suppurative cholangiohepatitis with portal fibrosis and parenchymal collapse.
