renal dysplasia?

Sonopath Forum

These kidney scans are from a three year old Saint Bernard who was presented for a pinnal hematoma surgery, but on her preanesthetic bloodwork she was found to have renal azotemia with BUN/creat 26/2.2 and USG 1.010.

This looks like renal dysplasia to me, what do you think?

Thanks

With the age and appearance highly indicative but could be from prior bacterial nephritis, Lyme disease, Leptospirosis, toxic insult. Only real way to confim dysplasia is with a biopsy – more important in breeding dogs as biopsy will not change the outcome.

I agree wiht Remo but the disrupted renal pelvis as oipposed to simple dilation leans more toward congenital dysplasia as we see this often in primary dysplasia kidneys. Bx for sure
