Pancreatitis chronic

Sonopath Forum

Coco is a 10 year old Daschund F/S with chronic intermittent pain episodes. Her abdominal US showed an hyperechoic pancreas with reactive onmentum. She was treated for pancreatitis with some improvment but she needs some pain meds otherwise she’s not OK ( only low fat diet doesn’t do it..).

Wondering if this can be neoplastic or it’s more like chronic pancreatitis.I’m considering pancreatic enzyme supplementation trial

Thank you,

CC

Hi Vetecho, doubt its

Hi Vetecho, doubt its neoplasia and carcinomas are hypoechoic in this region. This hyperechoic ill defined fat in the right panc base is suggestive for low grade inflammation. I like th esaran wrap used multiple times analogy… always crinkled the more you use it:)

Chronic active panc likely and its in a bad spot because it envelops the upper duodenum and pyloric outflow so any smoldering event will cause clinical signs right away. We have an abstract submitted to acvim on this mapping matched wiht clinical signs so if accepted you will see it in nashville.

You may be getting a + murphy sign on this region as well.

I would put this dog on baytril/metronidazole x 3 weeks, keep the diet hypoallergenic and canned bid, maybe gi protect and then rescan before stopping the meds. Likely long term on one diet on this guy.
