Pancreas is one of the organs that I’m ot comfortable with, can’t find it in every dogs. So, I did scan on this dog and would love to hear your comments.

  • Is this truly pancreas?
  • if yes, is this pancreas normal?
  • Any tips on pancreas scan? (right lobe of pancreas is hard flr me already, I’ve never seen left lobe or body of pancreas in my life!)

Thanks

Yes Poondej great shot of the right limb of the pancreas as it hugs the duodenum. Above the pancreas term you can see a single hyperechoic line (capsule) and dual line (panc duct) and the near field capsule is hidden behind the duodenum. This is the right limb and base (to left of the image) and there is some hypereechoic remodeling and disruption of archoitecture cranially so this pancreas likely got “lumped up” somehwere in the past. No ill defined surrounding fat or hypoechoic regions so in this image nothign looks active. See attached image for panc landmarks. I always look for the hyperechoic capsules equidistant with the dual lines in the middle (duct).

Tips: try the normal ehco and abdomen dvd (http://www.sonopath.com/products) there are efficiency clips of the pancreas and everything else abdomen cardio and thyroid. If you video clip the duodenum and pyloric outflow in a c type fashion and keep the GI to the left you will catch most of th eboomerang shaped pancreas in view whether you recognize it or not.
