Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Apical bladder mass. Mineralizing, suggestive of transitional cell carcinoma. This bladder mass appears resectable.

Image Interpretation

The urinary bladder presented a 2.7 x 2.0 cm apical dorsal mineralizing mass that appeared resectable. The prostate was uniform and prominent, yet no structural evidence of metastatic disease was noted. There is an infarction of the right kidney and dystrophic changes.

DX

Outcome

The bladder tumor was excised, but not the entire tumor was resolved. Chemotherapy was recommended. Owner was deciding where to have follow-up chemotherapy.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Hematuria – bladder pathology (neoplasia, urolith, chronic cystitis, bacterial cystitis), prostatic pathology (neoplasia, prostatitis), renal pathology (neoplasia, renoliths, pyelonephritis).

Sampling

Histopathology of the mass returned as transitional cell carcinoma.
