Deep inspiration with a barrel-shaped chested conformation and widened intercostal spaces is noted. The lumbodiaphragmatic angle is wide, there is a large distance between the caudal contour of the heart and the diaphragmatic cupola.
The lung presents an overall increase in opacity with a severe generalized bronchial pattern with peribronchial cuffing. The delineation of the 2nd and 3rd order pulmonary vessels is lost.
The radiographic findings are compatible with severe active bronchitis. The main differential diagnosis is feline allergic lower airway syndrome (asthma). Parasitic and bacterial bronchitis should be ruled out by fecal examination and bronchoalveolar lavage. Transtracheal wash or a diagnostic challenge may be considered as alternatives to the bronchoscopy.
