Pancreatic carcinoma in a 15 year old MN DSH cat
Sonographic Differential Diagnosis
Pancreatic carcinoma is highly likely. A fine needle aspirate or a biopsy of the pancreas can be performed for a definitive diagnosis. The prognosis for patients with pancreatic carcinoma unfortunately is very poor.
Image Interpretation
Large amount of cellular free fluid within the abdomen. Minor amount of debris within the urinary bladder. Mild pelvic dilation suspicious for pyelonephritis; however, can be secondary to IV fluid administration. Left pancreatic limb mass 3.93 x 3.27 cm.
DX
Pancreatic carcinoma.
Outcome
The patient was lost to follow up.
Clinical Differential Diagnosis
Transudate – hypoproteinemia. Modified transudate – neoplasia, liver disease, heart disease, venous obstruction. Non-septic exudate – FIP, urine, bile, blood Septic exudate – bacterial peritonitis.
Sampling
Cytology was performed and revealed pancreatic carcinoma.
