this 20 year old Cockatoo presented with abdominal ascites- removed 45cc with palpable mass effect after drainage

Image Interpretation

The liver in this patient was riddled with expansive, hypoechoic nodular masses. The coalescence of the masses measured 6.6 cm. The mass impinged cranially upon the heart. Surrounding nodular, irregular, hepatic contour was noted. Ascites was noted in the caudal abdomen. Ultrasound-guided FNA of the liver masses would be ideally for further definition.

DX

liver masses, secondary ascites

Outcome

Secondary ascites owing to portal hypertension, paraneoplastic syndrome. Poor
prognosis. FNA is recommended for further definition.
