Linear Foreign body in a 5 month old MN cat

A 5-month old MN cat was present with a history of vomiting and diarrhea. GI tract foreign body was suspected. Recent laboratory testing had shown neutrophilia, thrombocytopenia, and elevated ALP activity.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Distal small intestinal foreign body with ribbon type attachment.

Image Interpretation

The distal small intestine in this patient presented obstructed foreign body with a ribbon linear type foreign body attachment. No evidence of perforation was noted at the time. However, the patient was visibly painful on imaging of this region.

Small intestinal foreign body

Outcome

Abdominal exploratory was performed and a GI foreign body was identified and removed. No information is available as to location or type.
