This 2 year old German Shepherd Dog was reported to have been spayed at a previous hospital. Presented today with recent hisotry of intermittent bloody discharge from vulva.

This 2 year old German Shepherd Dog was reported to have been spayed at a previous hospital. Presented today with recent hisotry of intermittent bloody discharge from vulva.

Image Interpretation

The uterus was thickened from the cervix cranially to the mid urinary bladder; mazimum width was approximately 2 cm. Slight fluid accumulation noted within the lumen. The right horn of the uterus was not visible, yet the left horn was dilated with echogenic debris measuring 2.8cm consistent with left horn pyometra. The left ovary was clearly visible with multiple cystic changes measureing 2.8 cm. 

DX

Left horn pyometra with cystic left ovary or ovarian remnant

Outcome

Recommend exploratory surgery with complete resection of the uterus, left horn and left ovary. Inspection for the right horn is warranted as well as the right ovary, as these were not visible and may not be present or are obscured by the colon.
