An 8-year old MN Labrador Retriever dog was presented for chronic vomiting of bile after eating. The dog was currently taking Rimadyl for difficulty walking. Abnormalities on laboratory testing included elevated ALT activity and hyperkalemia.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Gastric infiltrative pattern suggestive for infiltrative neoplasia, although there is a possibility of chronic inflammatory disease.

Image Interpretation

There is concentric hypoechoic thickening of the stomach wall with loss of mural detail.

DX

Gastric carcinoma

Outcome

The owner elected euthanasia.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

GI tract disease (ulceration, neoplasia, partial obstruction, IBD, foreign body), hepatic disease (neoplasia, vacuolar hepatopathy, drug reaction, chronic-active hepatitis, hepatitis), toxicity.

Sampling

U/S guided Tru-cut biopsy of the stomach revealed an invasive solid carcinoma.
