Extensive pancreatitis in a 10 year old FS DSH cat

A 10-year-old female spayed DSH cat was presented for evaluation of intermittent diarrhea, weight loss, and anorexia. Blood work was unremarkable. 

A 10-year-old female spayed DSH cat was presented for evaluation of intermittent diarrhea, weight loss, and anorexia. Blood work was unremarkable. 

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Extensive pancreatitis with regional inflammation. Slight potential for underlying pancreatic carcinoma. Mild bile duct dilation and potential cholecystitis.

Image Interpretation

The pancreas was dramatically hypoechoic and irregular, with a dilated duct with echogenic debris. The pancreatic pathology measured 5.27 x 1.76 cm. The pancreatic duct was dilated measuring 0.38 cm. Ill-defined fat was noted throughout the base of the pancreas.
