CT of the head, plain and post contrast – The computed tomography of the head reveals an ovoid soft tissue lesion within the
mid third of the left nasal cavity measuring 3 x 2 x 2 cm. There is a mild mass effect
onto the nasal septum. Within the rostral component of the mass a short linear boneattenuating
object is seen. The mass reveals mild non-uniform contrast enhancement.
Partial nasal turbinate destruction is seen within the extent of the mass. A sharply
delineated geographic osteolytic defect is seen within the hard palate ventral to the
mass.
Caudal to the mass accumulation of fluid nasal secretions is noted within the nasal
cavity and frontal sinus.
The submandibular lymph nodes are within normal limits.
There is moderate generalized periodontal disease with disuse atrophy oft he alveolar
bone and tooth root resorption. The left upper P1/Triadan 205 is missing.
Note that an emerging malignant soft tissue neoplasia, such as
lymphosarcoma, adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma or other has to
be considered a valid possible differential diagnosis here.
Rhinoscopy with sampling for histopathology sampling and culture is strongly advised here for further definition and to rule out neoplasia
