CT – Chronic Cervical Disc Protrusions with Compressive Myelopathy in a dog

Case Study

CT – Chronic Cervical Disc Protrusions with Compressive Myelopathy in a dog

History of non localized pain, mild osteoarthritis, degenerative changes on cervical vertebrae. Suspect degenerative disc disease on multiple sites on cervical lumbar spine.

History of non localized pain, mild osteoarthritis, degenerative changes on cervical vertebrae. Suspect degenerative disc disease on multiple sites on cervical lumbar spine.

DX

The findings are compatible with mild to moderate chronic disc protrusions within the cervical spine from C3 to C7. Currently the most pronounced herniation is evident at the intervertebral disc space C3/4 and has the highest potential for a compressive myelopathy. With neutral positioning the notable effects are only mild. A dynamic component may matter.

Image Interpretation

CT of the cervical spine – There was a moderate intervertebral disc protrusion level with C3/4 causing mild compressive myelopathy. Mild intervertebral disc protrusions were seen level withC4/5, C5/6, C6/7 with minor compressive effects on the myelon as evident with the applied neutral positioning of the cervical spine. The intervertebral disc spaces C3/4 and C6/7 were mildly reduced in width.
There were no degenerative changes associated with the cervical vertebrae.
