Case Study

Chronic active inflammatory hepatopathy in a 11 month old FS DSH cat with copper storage disease

This 11 month old FS DSH cat has a history congenital biliary duct dysplasia with secondary copper storage disease. Current meds include zinc acetate, denamarin. Currently has vomiting and diarrhea.

Physical exam – BAR, good body condition, slightly yellow hue to skin on abdomen

Chem: chronic bilirubin elevation 5.1, ALT 593, ALKP 108

Image Interpretation

The liver was coarse in architecture and mildly hypoechoic to the falciform fat. Mildly increased portal markings were noted. The portal vein measured 0.46 cm. The gallbladder was slightly echogenic. The common bile duct was normal and measured 0.2 cm.

DX

Chronic active inflammatory hepatopathy

Outcome

There was no evidence of post hepatic obstruction. Consultation with Cornell University regarding this particular disease is recommended. Repeat core biopsy may be necessary to assist any progressive disease. However, subjectively this appears to be most consistent with sclerosing hepatopathy given the increased portal markings and remodeling. Otherwise, unremarkable
abdomen.
