Case Study

Adrenal mass with caval invasion in a 7 year old FS mixed breed dog

A 7-year-old FS mixed breed dog was presented for evaluation of weight loss and PU/PD. Abnormalities on blood work were neutrophilia, mild hypoglycemia (49), hyperglobulinemia, and elevated cobalamine.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Invasive left adrenal gland mass, mineralizing and enveloping the left kidney and invading the vena cava. Carcinoma is likely, possible pheochromocytoma.

Image Interpretation

A complex, mineralizing mass was noted and measured 4.7 cm with cystic components and regional inflammation. It appears that the left adrenal gland mass is invading into the vena cava and enveloping the left kidney. The vena cava appeared invaded to approximately 5-6 cm.
Regional midabdominal inflammation was noted.
