Case Study

15_00091 BB H Dynamic obstruction of the right ventricular outflow tract

A 10-year-old MN Maine Coon cat was presented for a dental procedure. On auscultation a grade 3/6 murmur was noted.

A 10-year-old MN Maine Coon cat was presented for a dental procedure. On auscultation a grade 3/6 murmur was noted.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Dynamic obstruction of the right ventricular outflow tract (DRVOTO). This is a common finding in cats and does not have any hemodynamic consequences. The minimal mitral insufficiency could be caused by dysplasia or degeneration of the leaflets; there is no hypertrophy.

Image Interpretation

There is a minimal amount of mitral insufficiency. CW-flow profiles across the RVOT show clear evidence of dynamic obstruction, which is considered a benign finding in cats.

DX

Dynamic obstruction of the right ventricular outflow tract (DRVOTO)

Outcome

No therapy needed in this case.

Comments

Anesthesia should not be a problem. There is no cardiac dysfunction present which could increase the risk.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Cardiomyopathy (hypertrophic/dilated), ventricular hypertrophy secondary to systemic hypertension, valve disease (endocardiosis/endocarditis), physiological, anemia.

Sampling

None
