A 9-year-old SF Golden Retriever was presented for evaluation of coughing, lethargy, and weight loss. On survey radiographs there was a possible cranial mediastinal mass.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Cranial mediastinal lymphadenopathy with target lesions in the spleen and liver. Multicentric neoplasia such as lymphoma is suspected.

Image Interpretation

The cranial mediastinum revealed 6 cm and 4.5 cm dramatically, hypoechoic cranial mediastinal lymph node masses with multiple other lymph nodes enlarged in the thorax. The abdomen revealed multi centric target type lesions throughout the spleen and liver. This is likely metastatic to the chest.

Outcome

None

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Neoplasia (lymphoma), abscess, granuloma, mediastinitis

Sampling

FNAs of the cranial mediastinal lymph nodes and spleen were performed.
