Metritis/pyometra. No viable fetuses. Medical treatment for metritis and uterine evacuation could be considered with recheck sonogram; however, given that this is an open pyometra, the chronic changes with the uterine wall will likely compromise future reproductive events and potentially put the patient at risk. Ovariohysterectomy is strongly recommended.
Uterus in this patient was dilated, thickened, fluid filled with echogenic debris consistent with metritis. No viable fetuses noted. Uterus measured 2 to 2.5 cm in width, wall thickness 0.81 cm.
