Sonographic Differential Diagnosis
Infiltrative splenic disease potentially involving the liver. lymphoma or similar neoplasia is suspected. Potential reactive liver or sand splenitis/reactive hypersplenism less likely
Image Interpretation
The spleen was enlarged with scalloping contour suggestive for infiltrative disease (Lsa or similar) or potential splenitis or aggressive reactive hypersplenism. The liver was coarse in architecture and mildly swollen.
DX
Metastatic hematopoietic neoplasm, mild to moderate hepatic lipidosis. Spleen:hematopoietic neoplasm
Clinical Differential Diagnosis
Mycoplasma infection (previously known as Hemobartonella.) Hematopoietic neoplasm, evaluate the cat’s FeLV/FIV status. Neoplasia, such as pancreatic adenocarcinoma, lymphoma, other gastrointestinal tumor causing occult blood loss.
Sampling
Fine needle aspirates were obtained from the liver and spleen. The liver aspirates were consistent with metastatic hematopoietic neoplasm and mild to moderate hepatic lipidosis. The spleen was also consistent with hematopoietic neoplasm.
