Case Study

06_00343 Taffy M Mass cranial to and possibly attached to the bladder

A SF Chihuahua mix of unknown age that had recently being adopted and spayed at a rescue center was presented for evaluation of a mass-like structure cranial to the urinary bladder. CBC and serum biochemistry were within reference range.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Granulomatous-type mass cranial to the urinary bladder; appears to be freely resectable.
Recommend exploratory surgery. The surgeon should be prepared for potential removal of a portion of the apical bladder wall owing to adhesions. No evidence of any metastatic disease. Granuloma versus neoplasia are primary differentials.

Image Interpretation

A 3 cm mixed hypoechoic structure was noted cranial to the urinary bladder with adhesion pattern; appears to be potentially attached to the bladder by an inflammatory adhesion attached to the apex of the bladder. Hypoechoic cystic portion appeared also present.
