A 15-year-old SF German shepherd mix was presented for evaluation of squatting and urinating frequently. Azotemia was present on serum biochemistry.

A 15-year-old SF German shepherd mix was presented for evaluation of squatting and urinating frequently. Azotemia was present on serum biochemistry.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Urethral and bladder tumors, non resectable.
No overt evidence of metastatic disease.

Image Interpretation

The urethra in this patient presented a multifocal polypoid mass extending at least 4 cm past the cystourethral junction along with ventral and apical bladder masses measuring 1.08-2.0 cm. Multifocal mineralization was noted at the most caudal aspect of the bladder tumor.

DX

Urine cytology revealed probable carcinoma

Renal disease – chronic kidney disease, pyelonephritis, renoliths, hydronephrosis, granulomatous nephritis (fungal, bacterial)
Bladder – cystitis, neoplasia, urolith, granulomatous cystitis
Urethra – urethritis, neoplasia, urethrolith

Sampling

Urine cytology revealed probable carcinoma
