Case Study

03_00227 Lala H Spindle cell carcinoma, liver **Potential COM**

A 4-year-old intact female Labrador retriever was presented for evaluation of hepatic masses. Abnormalities on CBC and serum biochemistry were anemia, thrombocytosis, and elevated globulins and ALP activity. On laparotomy numerous firm, circular masses throughout the liver, omentum, and on the body wall were evident.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Multifocal, hepatic masses consistent with neoplasia

Image Interpretation

Abdominal sonography shows multifocal, large, hypoechoic, heterogeneous masses throughout the entire liver; the masses measure 3-5 cm in diameter, and they were aspirated for cytologic evaluation.

DX

Spindle cell sarcoma of the liver

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Neoplasia, granulomatous disease

Sampling

The percutaneous FNA of the liver and intraoperative liver and omental biopsies reveal spindle cell sarcoma.
