Case Study

Regional lymphadenopathy with infiltrated duodenum in a 4 year old F Golden Retriever, suggestive of lymphoma

This 4 year old F Golden Retriever presented with weight loss, anorexia, and intermittent vomiting.

CBC/Chem: albumin 1.8, TP 3.6, Ca 8.3

Image Interpretation

Urinary bladder presented minor micropolypoid changes.

Stomach was full of ingesta consistent with a postprandial presentation. Focal duodenal thickening was noted in this patient with loss of detail strongly suggestive for infiltrative disease. Wall thickness measured approximately 1 cm, extended for approximately 5 cm.

The remainder of the intestinal tract was largely unremarkable

Mesenteric lymph node enlargement was noted in the midabdomen in this patient with a large amount of vascularity on Power Doppler. Other smaller lymph nodes were slightly enlarged as well.

DX

Infiltrative portion of small intestine presumed duodenum. Regional lymphadenopathy, strongly suggestive for underlying lymphoma or similar neoplasia.

Outcome

Delayed outflow with full stomach. Granulomatous disease is possible. Concurrent protein losing enteropathy likely.
Minor urinary bladder wall thickening.Urinary work up is warranted to assess for any clinically significant proteinuria as well as UTI.
Guarded prognosis dependent upon cytology of the lymph node. Further FNA of the intestinal thickening would also be ideal if accessible.

Sampling

FNA of mesenteric lymph node, results not available
