This 9 year old F intact Pit Bull Terrier dog presented with acute vomiting, lethargy and anorexia.

Physical exam: vaginal discharge

CBC/Chem: BUN 48, Crea 2.8, Phos 8.0, ALKP 353, Cl 105; neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, leukocytosis

This 9 year old F intact Pit Bull Terrier dog presented with acute vomiting, lethargy and anorexia.

Physical exam: vaginal discharge

CBC/Chem: BUN 48, Crea 2.8, Phos 8.0, ALKP 353, Cl 105; neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, leukocytosis

Image Interpretation

 

 Urinary bladder was empty, yet concentrically thickened consistent with chronic cystitis. A moderate amount of echogenic free fluid was noted. Uterus was dilated. 

The spleen was uniform, yet volume contracted. There was no evidence of pathology noted. Hydration status should be evaluated. 

Reactive mesentery was noted. 

 

 

DX

Pyometra, peritonitis; suspect rupture.

Outcome

Recommend immediate exploratory surgery with expectations towards abdominal lavage. Plasma transfusion would be ideal. Aggressive treatment for potential sepsis is recommended. Broad spectrum antibiotics.
