This 15 year old MN Visla presented with stranguria and pollakiuria. Bladder large, catheterized to empty completely. Urinalysis showed hematuria, leukocytes, proteinuria. Prostate enlarged and echogenically mixed.

Image Interpretation

Submitted are images of excellent collections of cells from the prostate. These cells are irregular in size and shape and associated with hemorrhage and minimal inflammation. Multi nucleated cells are observed. They have variable cytoplasm. There is anisokaryosis.

DX

Carcinoma consistent with transitional cell carcinoma of the prostate

Outcome

These collections demonstrate carcinoma cells. The most common carcinoma in the prostate is transitional cell carcinoma. There is some mild inflammation. Whatever is occurring appears to be an aggressive growth. An unfavorable prognosis is expected.
