Adrenal mass with adrenalectomy in a 12 year old FS DSH cat

Case Study

Adrenal mass with adrenalectomy in a 12 year old FS DSH cat

A 12-year-old FS DSH was presented for weight loss and vomiting. Abnormalities on CBC and serum biochemistry were anemia and hypercalcemia.

Image Interpretation

A 1.5 cm hypoechoic mass was noted in this patient in the region of the right adrenal gland; the lesion appears nonvascular. This is most consistent with left adrenal; however, with the images presented it is difficult to distinguish this being from left to right adrenal gland. However, if hypokalemia is present, then Conn’s syndrome is likely.

Left adrenal measured 0.5 cm.

DX

Non-invasive adrenal mass

Outcome

Exploratory surgery is recommended. If hypokalemia is present, then Conn’s syndrome is likely. No evidence of metastatic disease. Blood pressure measurements and sodium potassium as well as aldosterone levels are recommended in the meantime.

Comments
