Case Study

Unilateral hydronephrosis with suspected ureteral stricture in a 1 year old FS Poodle

A 15-month-old female spayed toy Poodle dog was presented for evaluation of vomiting and azotemia. Survey radiographs showed right renomegaly. During the dog’s ovariohysterectomy, the pedicle had been dropped.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Complete hydronephrosis. Proximal ureteral stricture suspected.

Image Interpretation

The left kidney was normal and measured 4.35 cm. The right kidney revealed complete hydronephrosis with echogenic debris. It measured 8.1 cm. The right ureter was dilated to the region approximately 3.0 cm caudal from the right renal pelvis. There was no visible parenchyma remaining in the right kidney.
