A 7 year old M Yorkshire terrier dog was presented for a two day history of vomiting in which the dog was non responsive to medical therapy. Clinical exam and radiographs were unremarkable. Bloodwork was normal.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Pyloric foreign bodies.

Image Interpretation

Shadowing pyloric foreign bodies were noted consistent with rubber or plastic or similar material. The size of the pieces varied from 2.5 to 1.5 cm.

DX

Gastric foreign body

Outcome

After the ultrasound examination,the owner revealed that the patient had been chewing on a plastic football toy 3-4 days prior to presentation. The patient underwent exploratory surgery (photo.) Three foreign bodies were removed via gastrotomy and the patient recovered uneventfully.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Gastritis, neoplasia, pancreatitis, metabolic.

Three foreign bodies were removed via gastrotomy.
