Small portal vein??

Small portal vein??

Chico 5 yr M intact Chihuahua has a past history of urinary obstruction from urate stones a few years ago.

Currently has had a partial re-obstruction and multiple small calculi are present in the bladder as well as renal calculi.

Current bloodwork is not available.

Portal vein seems to be significantly decreased in size as compared to the vena cava. Does this suggest a portosystemic shunt?

Either EHPS shunt or primary

Either EHPS shunt or primary portal hypoplasia. Try to image again and get the same view as attached here but let up on the hand pressure and center where my arrow is. Look for a cuirving shunt on CF doppler in this region as i suspect a splenocaval shunt that would enter dorsally where the arrow is. With the stonage history ammonium metabolism is likely off if they are bright stones suggestive for ammonium biurate. Regardless at sx for the stones needs a liver bx to assess portal hypoplasia if no shunt present. Splenocaval shunt slook like this form the search engine:
