Probable Mass in Heart

Sonopath Forum

Lizzie is an 11 year old Dalmation cross presenting for ADR post dental about 1 month ago. Blood work at that time was normal

Radiographs show pleural effusion, U/S shows PCE and PE along w/ cardiac tamponade. I think there is in the mass in the vicinity of the right auricle, but my anatomy is really messed up with all the effusions.

Quick scan of the abdomen showed ascites but no obvious liver/spleen dz.

Thanks

Sam

poericardial and pleural

poericardial and pleural effusion. Not typical echotexture for HSA and position is that of ao body tumor/chemodectoma but conneective tissue tumor possible as well. Could tap the pleural effusion and cytospin it and slide out the sediment may get a dx there. Not a good px here though unfortunately.

Plug Note: The curbside guide has a good chapter on cardiac neoplasia and pc effusion

and we now have oncology consultation on line as well with Dr. Buccholz to see what oncology options are available for this type of case

Thanks,
I couldn’t really

Thanks,

I couldn’t really tell where that was coming from…I’m assuming the aortic valve is the circular valve in the near field??? But not sure what the space is between the valve and the tumor?

I think what you are looking

I think what you are looking at is an oblique view of the TV. The mass is in the heart base over the la adjecent to the aorta. this is th etypical chemodectoma/ao body tumor spot.
