Jacquie, I have attached what a normal prominent u stump looks like and a stump pyo off the atlas 400 CD. The one on the far right was a stump pyometra so they can look similar. the 2 on the left were normal prominent non clinical stump presentations. So there wasn’t anything similar dorsal to the ub and vetral-lateral to the colon then the issue requires a vaginoscopy and culture and cytology as the problem is south of the border (“border” being the cervix:)

Does anyone know how long a uterine stump is visible after a spay? I must say I never see the uterine stump in female dogs but most of them are not in the immediate post-spay period. I assume the stump eventually just atrophies down making them not possible to see providing a pyo or granuloma doesn’t develop

Yes it does but it largely
Yes it does but it largely depends on how far the surgeon takes the uterine stump down to…whether its all the way tot he cervix or not. In these normals the surgeon must have left a bit of the body whereas when i was a surgeon I always took them down to as close to the cervix as possible and I couldn’t see anything when scanning them later for other reasons. I don’t know the actual numbers but I would think 4 weeks post cycle or post ovh it should be close to minimal size just like a prostate would after neutering.
