Logic E Next Gen How Many Probes Do I Need ?

Thought i would post this conversation with permission form Dr Kelly Romero asking me this question as she is purchasing a Logic e next gen (R7 in Canada) and has done our SDEP echo and abdomen courses:

Dr Romero: Can I get by with a 6s probe and not the 3s for cardiac on the logic e?

EL Response:

You will underestimate velocities with the 6s in larger dogs and get dinged by others that wish to do so if they rescan and get a 6 m/s MR when your weak 6s on a 50# dog gave you 5.2 m/sec… same for sas and ps and so forth.

This is my Logic e cardiac probe flow:
cats 8c til I have aliasing jets on pw then the 6s for cw doppler.
6s for all dogs up to 30# with MR  and congenital velocities double checked with the CW on the 3s probe.
All echos > 30# use the 3s for the full scan.

This maximizes the image quality and ensures proper velocities

The sales guys try to get you to only use the 6s because they want to keep the price down and compete with a 3 probe package. They don’t scan… they sell.

Ebay can be a good source for

Ebay can be a good source for probes if you don’t want to pay retail price for new – however probes are specific for machine models so be sure to do your research on exactly which probe your machine needs. Contact the seller first if not enough details are given. And I would make sure there is a return policy, as you need to have time to try it out and send it back if it is not imaging well for you.

Yes JP that is correct I

Yes JP that is correct I found that out the hard way. The old 3s probes got up to the BT 12 but the next gen needs the new one… scans nicely though:)

As a heads up, the older

As a heads up, the older model GE 3s cardiac probe will not work on the Logic e Next Gen R7.
