“Working Through the Ascites on Ultrasound”: Our Case of the Month April 2014

A 9-year-old MN DSH was presented for evaluation of ascites. On physical examination a distended abdomen and weight loss was evident. Fluid analysis revealed a moderate neutrophilic exudate – suspected bacterial sepsis. CBC showed neutrophilia, monocytosis, and mild anemia whereas serum chemistry was within normal limits.

An 8-year-old MN DSH cat presented for weight loss, anorexia and icterus. Other than icterus th eclinical exam was unremarkable. Total bilirubin 5.6 was elevated along with ALT,  SAP  and prolanged PT and APTT on the coagualtion panel.

Bladder mass in a 16 year old MN DSH cat with a history of IBD

A 16-year-old neutered male DSH cat with a history of weight loss and inflammatory bowel disease was presented for poor appetite. Dehydration, dental disease, and nasal discharge were noted on physical examination. Hematuria was present on urinalysis. Initial CBC showed leukocytosis and anemia, which remained fairly unchanged after a month of antibiotic therapy.
