Hepatocutaneous syndrome?

  • 14 yo M/N Shi-Tzu with elevated liver enzymes and severe ulcerative pododermatitis.
  • Right liver had multiple small ill-defined hypoechoic nodules.
  • Differentials: chronic hepatitis vs benigh hyperplasia vs neoplasia vs hepatocutaneous syndrome. No FNA done.
  • Does this look like the “swiss cheese” pattern found with hepatocutaneous syndrome?
  • Thank you for your input!

  1. Yes this would

Yes this would fit…increased portal markings, coalescing diffuse nodular changes… HCS. core bx of liver and dermal bx at the same time.

  2. Diagnosis can be made on

Diagnosis can be made on dermal biopsy alone without having to biopsy the liver. Skin lesions are pathognomic – “french flag” appearance.

  3. Thank you, I will pass this

Thank you, I will pass this along to the referring vet. I’m french, so I’m all about that French flag appearance!
