Heart disease

Sonopath Forum

  • 13 year old American Bull Terrier with coughing, intitially responded to pimobendan and furosemide but still hacking
  • X-rays showed cardiomegaly, lungs appeared normal
  • I think this dog has left sided mitral valve disease with mildly dilated LV and LA with increased pressure and dilated RV and RA due to moderate pulmonary hypertension (pulmonic and tricupid insufficiency with increased pressures).
  • Would you agree with this?

    • Is this mainly cor pulmonale with concurrent mitral valve disease or what is driving the pulmonary hypertension?
    • Also had a regular intermittent run of 2 VPCs, not tachycardic. (No evidence of abdominal disease)
    • Do you think the VPCs are cardiac or extracardiac in origin?
    • Thanks in advance

LA is still about 5 cm and

LA is still about 5 cm and the AS is deviated owing to LAE. I would add spironolactone and an ace inhibitor and even increase lasix as a trial. May have a bronchial component as well as many do.
