A 12-year-old Shepherd mix dog was presented for evaluation of an 18-month history of urinary incontinence and hematuria. Urinalysis showed normal specific gravity, hematuria, and pyuria.

A 12-year-old Shepherd mix dog was presented for evaluation of an 18-month history of urinary incontinence and hematuria. Urinalysis showed normal specific gravity, hematuria, and pyuria.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

A small, non-shadowing concretion with polypoid apical wall changes and chronic cystitis pattern. Transitional cell carcinoma and polypoid hyperplasia are both possible. Small mobile calculi.

Image Interpretation

The urinary bladder presented a small, non-shadowing concretion that measured 0.5 cm; the bladder also had polypoid apical wall changes and chronic cystitis pattern. Multiple, mobile small calculi were noted in the bladder with shadowing. Urethral calculi were also noted.

None

Comments

The area of the mass or polyp appears resectable with resection of the cranial half of the bladder. 

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Bladder disease – neoplasia, uroliths, bacterial cystitis, granulomatous cystitis. Urethral disease – neoplasia, calculi.
