Suspected Left Atrial Rupture In A 14-Year-Old MN Maltese: Our Case of the Month August 2017

A 14-year-old, MN, 13.5 lb Maltese was presented for a possible syncopal episode after going upstairs and breathing heavier. The patient was treated with enalapril 2.5 mgs PO SID and scheduled for an echocardiogram. Physical Exam: Grade 4/5 murmur. Radiograph indciated severe cardiomegaly. BP 117/74 Map 90. CBC: Normal. Chemistry: Alk. Phos 1340.

Perforated Intestine From A Linear Foreign Body In A 14-Year-Old MN Dachshund: Our Case Of the Month 2017

A 14-year-old, MN, Dachshund was presented for vomiting, fever, diarrhea, and anorexia x 3 days. The patient had a history of pancreatitis and foreign body. The patient had a painful abdomen. Blood work revealed leukocytosis, neutrophilia, low albumin (2.1) and cPL WNL. Radiographs were suspect for peritoneal effusion/peritonitis; irregular gas pattern – enteritis or pancreatitis.

The patient was presented on emergency from his RDVM. Thoracic radiographs were unremarkable. 2-view abdominal radiographs showed a cranial abdominal mass. CBC: HCT 32%, Anemia, elevated WBC 29.58, Mono 59, Neut 22.44, PCV/TP 36%/8.2 upon presentation. A double cavity ultrasound was performed.
