Hello

I have a 6 year old female spayed DSH that had surgery for a metal fb with clinical signs of 1 week duration. Removed via surgery. We were concerned about fatty liver at the time as the liver enzymes were elevated.

The TBili was over 300.

We ultrasounded today and found a very tortuous bile duct with no obvious stone. With doppler we identified the portal vein with some confidence however the degree of tortuosity has me confused. The GB appears bilobed as a result of fat and the most proximal bile duct can be traced with confidence but then we cannot trace it any further and we end up with a circular tubular structure over the portal vein. It has a thick wall. I am unsure if this is the bile duct, pancreatic duct or something else. It is around 4mm and no obvious stones were seen. We have the cat on IV, feeding tube and other supportive treatments at this time. We will most likely be repeating the US in 24 hours for comparison but I was hoping for some guidance on identifiying what I am seeing.

In particular the thick walled circular structure ventral to the similar sized vein. Thanks. Brent

Wicked cholecystitis and may

Wicked cholecystitis and may be extending from pancreatic inflammation and post hepatic obstruction. Look like the FB wasnt the whole story. Older animals often have pica when the have underlying GI-panc disease just an observation over the years.
