abnormal kidneys. DDX?

Sonopath Forum

Hello,

While doing a cysto ( USG 1.050) found these abnormal kidneys. It looks like normal echogenicities are reversed Hypoechoic on cortex and medulla hyperechoic with hypoechoic pelvis. What would be the diffrentials for this puppy – 5 months old M/N ?

Bloodwork was normal except low Phosp 4.9 ( 5.1 – 10 .4). BUN/ Creatinine was normal

Thank you

I see this in toy breeds a lot yorkies and bichons..I cant recall ever getting a bx but I do make more of an issue wiht it if any proteinuria given the medullary rim sign an dmention the potenial for some level of renal dysplasia… but I don’t have definitive answers on this one. That being said I don’t recall ever havign a case like this go clinical on me though either…Anyone else have bx results on this type of kidney?

Cannot recall seeing any cases. With the normal renal function and no proteinuria unlikley that it is renal dysplasia. Has anyone followed these cases to see what happens with time?

I see it in young and older toy breeds with remodeling and I can say that they looked interesting but incidental as I was there for something else… I don’t remember anythign being clinical unless it was an end stage degenerative version of these types of kidneys.
