8 year old intact male laborador
Ascites, tachypnea
Opinions on cardiomypathy? There is pleural effusion also which is puzzling. We have not been able to radiograph yet, will post rads when available

Looks like poor contractility
Looks like poor contractility of both left and right ventricle with a dilated left atrium, all of which fit with DCM with myocarditis as a differnential diagnosis. The ascites and pleural effusion fit with congestion and the heart rate compensatory for the reduced cardiac output.

looks like DCM, combined
looks like DCM, combined right and left heart failure creates also pleural effusion in dogs. as Remo said, myocarditis could be DDx, also decompensated shunt like PDA. HR is compensatory.

Thank you very much for the
Thank you very much for the comment. I have heard that dogs do not get pleural effusion with heart failure, cats do. However, looking at this dog again after 24 hours on Lasix and Benazepril, here are radiographs (yesterday our xray machine was down) and I am thinking in this case the effusion could indeed be related to cardiac disease. There seems to be less effusion on this rad, than I saw with the probe yesterday (I know comparing apples and oranges….) We are adding the vetmedin today as well as doxycycline. The dog is breathing more comfortably today but seems weaker.
I’m not seeing the radiographs – so I am re-attaching them. Apologies if this makes them post twice- i am unfamiliar with this site

How about infectious
How about infectious myocarditis/pleuritis pam??? That would make sense
