This 14-year-old controlled diabetic MN West Highland White Terrier was presented for anorexia, polydipsia, and shaking. The physical exam revealed 8% dehydration without other significant findings. Blood analysis revealed severe hyperglycemia and severely elevated lipase with mildly increased amylase, mildly increased SAP, mildly increased ALT, mildly increased BUN and mildly increased creatinine. Mild regenerative anemia was also present with a normal leukogram.

Gastric Leiomyoma in a 14 year old MN West Highland White Terrier dog
Sonographic Differential Diagnosis
Gastric wall mass compatible with neoplasia, leiomyoma or leiomyosarcoma, lymphosarcoma or similar round cell tumor Focal inflammatory or granulomatous gastritis is considered less likely.
Image Interpretation
Severe, focal, asymmetrical gastric wall thickening is present in the lesser curvature. The gastric wall mass is markedly hypoechoic, relatively homogeneous and continuous with the muscularis layer, peripherally. In the thickest portion of the mass, delineation between the the muscularis based mass and adjacent gastric wall layers is maintained. Color flow Doppler aided in the differentiation between a gastric mural mass and a luminal structure.
DX
Outcome
The patient succumbed to postoperative complications and uncontrollable seizure activity 7 days post therapy and was euthanized.

Sampling
Surgical resection revealed gastric leiomyoma and was fully excised.
